15/02/2024 18:00

The Foundation is pleased to welcome Dr Jane Williams and Dr Heidi Reesink to the Veterinary Advisory Committee (VAC).  Dr Williams, who is currently Head of Research at Hartpury University, UK, brings a depth of knowledge in the scientific evaluation of equestrian performance and training in relation to horse welfare, together with experience in the application of statistical techniques to test the reliability and validity of accepted industry practices. Dr Reesink, who is Associate Professor of Large Animal Surgery at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University, US, is a specialist in equine orthopaedics and applied clinical research, and has published widely on musculoskeletal disease of the Thoroughbred racehorse. She has a particular interest in preventing fractures in racehorses, and in the application of molecular biology to study orthopaedic disease. These two appointments expand the VAC to eight members and provide additional experience and knowledge that will further enhance the review of applications and technical advice that the committee can provide to the Foundation’s Board.

Both appointments were made from a list of distinguished scientists from around the world, who responded to a call issued by the Foundation for Expression of Interest. The Foundation deeply appreciates the interest shown by all applicants and the willingness of colleagues to donate their time to this worthy cause, which is critical to the Foundation’s success and its ability to fund research globally.
