The Hong Kong Jockey Club Equine Welfare Research Foundation is pleased to announce that the portal for the latest call for applications for funding for projects into topics that will improve the welfare of horses will open between 1 December 2021 and 31 January 2022!

The Foundation lists topics that it considers warrant priority research attention on its website and we hope to receive applications that address these issues. We are interested in supporting a wide spectrum of topics, from prevention of disease and injury to identifying modified routine stable practices that may help horses to lead an even better quality of life. Our focus extends beyond racing and we hope to receive applications for projects that provide evidence from which to formulate best practice in the care of horses undertaking a second career or in retirement after racing.

The scientific quality of each proposal remains a critical consideration when determining which applications to fund. We are blessed with a strong and dedicated Veterinary Advisory Committee that is ably supported by a global network of specialist, all who give their time gratis to ensure that the projects that we fund are scientifically robust.

We will be using our new Grant Management System this round and hope that the system will bring a more streamlined experience to our applicants than previously.
